Description of how I used PSE in my two final projects.

I used PSE when editing all my photos for both of my projects. I chose to edit all my photos this way so I had more experience with the program to decide if I wanted to continue to subscribe to it. Techniques used in the photos in my Podcast primarily include, using many of the layering effects. I used several tools such as the Elliptical Marquee Tool and the Move Tool. Most of my pictures are finished off with feathering and adding a frame to the picture. Some frames are simple and others are fancy made by layering different effects from the Effects Palette. In my Podcast I created several photo collages. My favorite edited photo for this project was not that hard to achieve but took some time playing around with the effects. But when I found it, it was perfect for the photo. In the book, that my Podcast is over, whenever the children are in the secret hour the lighting changes. The author describes it as everything is dipped in blue. By going to layer styles and then to photographic effects, I was able to create this blue light in several of my photos. I used this technique on my title and end page as well. I liked using the Image Effects on photos in my final movie along with layering different effects.

Podcast Review

Podcasts are new to me. I was very surprised at that variety and the endless ways they can supplement the curriculum. I chose the Podcast titled, “Stuff You Missed in History Class.” Just in the last 10 days, half of the episodes would fit into my social studies curriculum. For example, our text does not have much on the Almo. In this week, they did an episode on How the Almo Worked. All podcasts will need to be listened to first to make sure the content is age appropriate for sixth grade, but so far the content was fine for my sixth graders. I also just finished a two month WWII study with my reading class. I found several back episodes I could use to supplement this unit. They even had an episode on Navajo Code Talkers. I have a student reading a novel about that topic right now.

It doesn’t move too fast that you could not pause to define or review vocab that is being used. The podcast also does a great job at building background knowledge of events leading up to the topic being discussed. Average podcasts are 14-15 min. long. This is something I will definitely use in my classroom.

Teacher Tube Video review

The Power of One
http://www.teachertube.com/v.php?viewkey=cc3b2d253fac24326e5b

I was searching through videos for middle school students, since I teach sixth grade, and came across this one. I read a lot of short stories through out the year on being kind. They come from books such as Random Acts of Kindness and Chicken Soup for the Soul. This video would be great to show at our sixth grade graduation.

Be Kind to Your Erasers

I liked this http://www.teachertube.com/v.php?viewkey=f5bb252d13f5f431e4bb
video because the teacher took a simple mundane rule in her art class and made it very effective through humor. If this was shown at the beginning of the year, then if she saw a problem with the use of erasers later in the year she could simple refer to the video. That way she does not sound like she is nagging. Her students will not forget the video. She made sure of that through original characters and the special effects. This is a really good idea to take something that teachers maybe nag about all year and prevent it from happening by creating a humorous video to send a message about what to do and what not to do in your classroom.

Two Minute Video (Third Try)

Here is my two minute video. Some of my students and I created a CAT testing tip video for the whole sixth grade. I not only learned about the movie program but also learned about what I need to do next time to take better video. I am excited to work on the next movie.
